Things went disastrously wrong. It was a real fiasco. We tried to {compensate|address the situation, but it was like trying to stop a tsunami with a spoon. We're still picking up the pieces and feeling the blow of this epic fail.

This crisis has spiraled out of control. It's a total fiasco. We've tried just about everything to fix it, but nothing seems to function. At this point, it feels like we're hopelessly stuck. Seriously. My {boss|friend|was absolutely furious. I managed to explain, but it was pointless.

The rest of the day was just as bad. was a catastrophe. I stay awake.

By the time I reached my destination, I was physically and emotionally wiped out. This day, this atrocious day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.

Things Went From Bad to Absolutely Terrible

It all started out terribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then things went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the Very bad kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
